Study Medicine,they said!

It'll be fun,they said!

Yeah right,stop the bus!!!

So,I'm sitting here trying to study(which by the way is the only thing I'm destined to do for the next God knows how many years of my life).Anyway,I'm sitting here staring at my book and I hear my younger Sis asking her friend if the results of the just concluded post UTME examinations have been released. I begin to imagine all the young boys and girls, fresh out of secondary school hoping to get admitted into the University with dreams of becoming doctors, lawyers, engineers, architects, etc in the future, especially the ones hoping to get admitted into the University to study Medicine, kinda reminds me of a young girl with the same dreams some few years back.

The truth is,within the four walls of the University, being a medical student ain't as glamorous and cool as they make it sound.

Sure, the swag and the respect that comes with stepping out each day all clad in your white uniforms and dazzling white  labcoats, with a stethoscope around your neck, and having everyone stare at you like you're some kind of celebrity,is cool and fun and definitely something to look forward to.

But trust me,its nothing compared to the mental torture we endure--the sleepless nights, the migraines that come after nights of consuming gallons of caffeine just to stay awake and study, the anxiety as the workload piles up and exams begin to lurk around the corner, the fear of having to be kicked out from the college due to poor performance in the exams,or of losing a year and being separated from friends, the sacrifices we make--no time for family, friends or any other social activities(heck,my sis tells me all the time that I don't have a life).

But still,we walk with our heads held high, like we own the world and everything in it(afterall,we are the ones who save human lives...God creates and doctors preserve, right??or something like that),we smile,we're happy(at least most of us pretend to be).

  Why,you may ask?

Honestly,I don't know, which brings me to what really brought about these stream of thoughts.....what keeps people going in life?,and I just don't mean as regards to medical students going through medical school.

WHAT IS THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND LIFE??

Money? Fame? Success?? A call to serve humanity?

What do you think is the driving force behind life for you as a person?

Please feel free to drop your comments. Thanks!
